"About a year and a half ago I was preparing to sell an older house and property in Inglewood. It was very important to me that if the house was a "tear down" that whatever structure was built in its' place met two criteria. The first was that it had to be compatible with the Inglewood Neighbourhood and respectful of the fact that the house and property had been in my family for many years. The home was one of the first built in Inglewood by the CPR to accommodate one of their many employee's families - one of which was a relative of mine. It was also important that it not be 'flipped' - a process with which I ethically disagree. The second criteria was that whatever structure was built must be high on the sustainability scale. I am very committed to saving the planet and I did not want a "monster home" which wastes resources that only the rich could afford.
So I began my research. I happened upon information through Google that described "Skinny Homes" in Edmonton. As I went through the information I knew very quickly that I was sold on these Skinny Homes. This is what I wanted for my property as it completely met my criteria! I was quite the sleuth and tracked down the developers of the Skinnies - Kirkland Homes - and I also tracked down the President of Accent Infills, Matt Kaprowy. We talked and I told him what I was looking for and he asked me to give him a couple of days to have the property checked out for suitability and it turned out that my property was right size and so we began the perfect real estate relationship! I acted as my own agent and Matt and his lawyer guided me through the process. The home was demolished in the spring of 2015 and Accent Infills bought my property with the verbal guarantee to me that two Skinny Homes would be built on my heritage property.
Matt and I have stayed in touch due to my interest in following the construction process of the Skinnies. According to Matt, the homes on my former heritage property will be finished by the end of the spring 2016 and will then be sold. I want to thank Matt, Kirkland Homes, their legal staff and Accent Infills for making this all happen. I am thrilled how my plans have turned out and I am hoping that the folks of the Inglewood Neighbourhood are comfortable with what has taken the place on the old Edmonton homestead. I also want to say that I adore the Skinny Home concept and wish Matt and Accent Infills all the best in the future in keeping the Edmonton mature neighbourhoods vital and beautiful!"
